We have put together a list of frequently asked questions. Kindly look through, and if your question is not answered here, fill the contact us form below, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

What is the proper way to rinse Chemi-pure/Chemi-pure Elite, Blue or Green?

Simply hold the unit under running water and gently manipulate the bag until the water starts to rinse clear. This may take 5 to 10 seconds for our new QuickWash carbon and can take up to 5 minutes of rinsing for our carbon products. There may be some carbon residue released in the aquarium after rinsing. You may see some cloudiness; however, this is completely normal as well as harmless. It will dissipate within a short amount of time.

How do I judge what is the proper unit size of Chemi-pure / Chemi-pure Elite, Blue, or Green for my Aquarium?

The directions will give you a recommended treatment size based on your aquariums total water volume. This recommendation is based on the variances of individual aquariums. For example, all systems will vary depending on the actual volume of water. Which will differ greatly due to the quantity of rock, gravel, decorations, etc. Then you have to consider the bio-load, whether it is heavily or lightly stocked. These differences will also directly affect the amount of food going in, as well as the amount of waste being produced. Then you need to take into account the variety of different filtration systems available today. Some are much more efficient than others. All of these factors will help you to determine how effective the different size units will be for your individual needs as well as the individual husbandry practices.

My aquarium size needs a full unit but my filter doesn’t have enough room to accommodate one. What should I do?

We have a variety of different product unit sizes that can accommodate your specific water volume needs. If you need to reach a specific gallon mark but one bottle of Chemi-pure doesn’t cut it, then try adding a Chemi-pure Blue or Green Nano or a Chemi-pure Elite Mini to increase your treatment by 5 or 10 gallons.

When is the best time to change out my Chemi-pure/Chemi-pure Elite, Blue, or Green unit?

Replacement is recommended every 2 to 4 months depending on bio-load.

What is considered NORMAL use?

Normal use is an aquarium that is only moderately stocked coupled with adequate to highly efficient filtration. Feeding habits and waste production factor into the equation as well. If you notice your aquarium start to get cloudy, replace your Chemi-pure at that time.

I don’t have an aquarium store near me, who carries Chemi-pure and where can I purchase this product?

You can use our Interactive Store Locator Map to find local Chemi-pure retailers near you. If you cannot find a local pet store, you can find our products online from a variety of online vendors.

I have several small aquariums. I want to buy your Grande size Chemi Pure/Chemi Pure Elite and divide it up amongst them. Any recommendations on how to go about that?

We do not recommend opening any Chemi-pure units. The product is combined in such a way with the proper ratios of different components that if altered it will not provide optimum filtration. The effectiveness will be greatly diminished at that point.

Can I place my Chemi-pure under my Bio ball Trickle filter?

Yes, the proper placement is at the end stage of any filtration system. It will work fine in most areas that have maximum exposure and good water flow being pushed into and around the unit. Never place the unit into a filter sock.
